DNC refuses to play RNC in annual softball game

The Democratic National Committee is refusing to play the Republican National Committee in their annual softball game this year.

“The RNC-DNC softball game was an annual tradition and a time to put aside politics. It’s a shame @TheDemocrats are refusing to participate this year,” RNC chairwoman Ronna McDaniel posted to Twitter.

Sources at the RNC told the Daily Caller that they were “stunned” when Democrats pulled out of the typically good-natured game between leadership staffers that had gone on for the last decade. The source said that the DNC informed them that “all our players are out in the field this year,” which is why they wouldn’t be able to play.

The DNC did not immediately respond to the Washington Examiner’s request for comment.

Last year the teams took a photo together, where McDaniel and DNC chairman Tom Perez stood beside each other.

In the past, the teams would engage in light-hearted bets. In 2014 Sean Spicer and former DNC spokesperson Mo Elleithee made a bet that Elleithee would shave his head if the DNC lost and Spicer would switch the RNC Twitter profile photo to the the DNC logo if the RNC lost.

The annual game often would end with all players having a drink together at a nearby bar, despite working for opposing political organizations.
