German Chancellor Angela Merkel has arrived at the White House for her first sit-down with President Trump.
The meeting comes just months after both leaders traded sharp rhetorical barbs over Germany’s refugee policy and Trump’s proposed immigration ban. Merkel, who developed a close friendship with Trump’s predecessor has remained critical of the administration’s attempts to pause immigration from Muslim-majority countries.
Merkel and Trump will hold a bilateral meeting, followed by a listening session with leaders in vocational training. Later in the afternoon, they will deliver remarks at a joint press conference before participating in a bilateral lunch with their aides.
Trump is expected to depart for his residence in Palm Beach, Fla., shortly after his visit with the German chancellor concludes.
