The 23-year-old nephew of a Baltimore County police officer was shot to death early Sunday morning in the parking lot of the Windsor Inn in Woodlawn.
At about 2:15 a.m., police were called to the 7200 block of Windsor Mill Road, where they found Taavon Chambers shot to death.
Another victim, described only as a 22-year-old male, also was shot and was expected to survive after being taken to an area hospital by a passerby.
Detectives say the gunman approached the two victims while they were standing in the parking lot, pointed a gun at the unidentified victim and ordered him to lie on the ground, at which time the victim tried to defend himself, according to police.
The gunman fired a shot grazing his head, but the victim was able to escape.
The gunman then turned to Chambers and shot him in the head, killing him, police said.
The shooter fled the scene in a white Lincoln Continental with a soft top and with a partial Maryland tag containing “LNL.”
Investigators are evaluating evidence and witness information to try to identify the suspect.
“We truly don?t know what the motive for this is,” Baltimore County police spokesman Cpl. Mike Hill said. “There does not appear to be a relationship between the suspect and the victim.”
Police urge anyone with information about the crime to call Baltimore County police at 410-307-2020 or Metro Crime Stoppers at 1-866-7-LOCKUP.
