Obama cites progress on domestic oil production

President Obama on Monday launched a media blitz to promote his energy policies and counter Republican critics trying to convince voters that the president is to blame for soaring gas prices.

The president granted interviews with several local television anchors from key swing states to tout a report from his own administration that claims domestic oil production is at an eight-year high, even as Republicans argue that Obama has stifled domestic oil production in favor of developing renewable energy sources.

“The progress report I received today from members of my administration underscores the headway our nation has made towards reducing our reliance on foreign oil, while also expanding American-made energy,” Obama said, marking the first anniversary of his “Blueprint for a Secure Energy Future.”
