LIFE IS A ?CRABARET?
Bushels of supporters gathered for the fourth annual “Crabaret” fundraiser for the House of Ruth. Chairs Vicki Deyesu and John Yuhanik really worked in attracting more than 400 to honor Attorney General J. Joseph Curran Jr.
The House of Ruth Maryland is one of the nation?s leading domestic violence centers, helping thousands of battered women and their children find the safety and security that the rest of us take for granted.
The weather gods cooperated just in time for people to enjoy the specialties of nationally known chef John Shields, also known as the culinary ambassador of Chesapeake Bay. John owns and operates the award-winning restaurant Gertrude?s at the Baltimore Museum of Art. The attorney general was in his glory, having daughter, Judge Katie O?Malley and her husband Martin, Baltimore?s mayor, there enjoying the tunes of Leroy Thomas and The Zydeco Roadrunners. The Wine Source and Clipper City furnished all with fine libations to wash down the morsels of the Bay. Seen partaking were WJZ Channel 13?s Richard Sher and Crabaret committee member Sharon Bass. Not only were the food and entertainment top-notch, but the live and silent auction hosted many once-in-a-lifetime opportunities, such as a private dinner party prepared by John Shields and tickets to a Ravens game from the owner?s personal box. Congrats to all on the Crabaret committee for a job well done.
SPEAKING OF THE RAVENS
There?s less than 48 hours left until my sports life rekindles with the kickoff to the 2006 Ravens training camp at McDaniel College.
Many of us have been itching for the start of football season. Fans are going to get a little preview scratch tonight at Ruth?s Chris Steakhouse, at Pier 5, for a private fine dinner, expert interview and conversation with Defensive Coordinator Rex Ryan, son of the legendary Buddy Ryan.
Rex will educate all about the Ravens? 4-6 defense. If the past serves true, he will also answer all questions from the lucky attendees.

A REACH TO THE BEACH
Even though The Examiner is not circulated in Ocean City, I know that many of our readers are frequent visitors. Much to our delight, we ran into the former maitre d? of Velleggia?s, in Towson, “Jerry D,” later of Jerry D?s Saloon in Parkville. His talents are now with the newly located Ristorante Antipasti.
In a resort town known mostly for chains, owner Fausto Di Carlo has transformed the restaurant atmosphere in Ocean City. The new location was formerly a Wendy?s, now beautifully redone to match the fantastic Italian cuisine we were treated to. Fausto also informed us that at 5 p.m. every Thursday, he will reveal some of his recipe secrets.
So head down to the Ocean, hon, and for $30 per person you will be treated to a fine glass of wine, a selected dish and the opportunity to learn from the master himself.
Make sure to tell Jerry D that Anne sent you!
