A female student who survived a deadly shooting at Santa Fe High School in southeastern Texas Friday morning said had believed it was a matter of time until a gunman walked into her school and opened fire.
“Was there a part of you that you that thought, ‘This isn’t real. This would not happen in my school?'” a local news reporter asked.
“No, there wasn’t,” said a girl who was identified as Paige. “It’s been happening everywhere. I’ve always kind of felt like eventually it was going to happen here, too.”

The young girl said she managed to stay calm during the incident, but witnessed another student “freaking out.”
“They were struggling really hard to keep her calm. It was really scary,” she added.
At least eight students and adults were killed and an unknown number wounded when a student gunman opened fire at the school before 8 a.m. Central Time Friday.
