Romney’s family pushing him to run

Former Gov. Mitt Romney, R-Mass., said Wednesday his family is pushing him to jump in the presidential race as an independent candidate.

“My wife and kids wanted me to run again this time,” Romney told CBS News anchor John Dickerson at the Aspen Ideas Festival in Colorado on Wednesday. “I got an email from one of my sons yesterday, saying ‘You gotta get in, Dad. You gotta get in.'”

But Romney, the 2012 Republican nominee, does not think the third time is the charm after losing then and in the 2008 primaries.

“I don’t think an independent candidate can win,” Romney added. “It’s hard on family,” Romney said. “It’s hard on your spouse sitting there in debates agonizing over what you’re going to say next or what your kids go through and your grandkids to go through.”

Romney remained adamant about not endorsing Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump.
