Melania Trump learns calligraphy at Tokyo elementary school

First lady Melania Trump learned about calligraphy during a visit to a Tokyo elementary school on Monday with her Japanese counterpart, Akie Abe.

Hundreds of children at Kyobashi Tsukiji Elementary School sang to the first ladies to welcome them. Trump posed for photos and high-fived the students.

She later attended a calligraphy lesson in a fourth-grade classroom.

“Beautiful characters,” Trump told the students of their work, according to CNN.

The first lady then tried it herself, writing the first character of “peace.” Abe wrote the second character.

Trump is accompanying President Trump on his first 12-day Asian tour. They kicked off the trip in Japan.

Akie and Melania Trump on Sunday visited a jewelry shop in Tokyo to leave about the history of pearls.
