Trump: My supporters are ‘far tougher’ than protesters, ‘not hostile’

Presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump argued Friday that his supporters are “not hostile,” yet are “far tougher” than the protesters that caused havoc after his rally in San Jose Thursday evening.

Trump fired off a tweet Thursday afternoon saying that the event in Northern California went great, except for the “thugs” who showed up afterwards and escalated the situation outside the venue.

“Great evening in San Jose other than the thugs,” Trump said. “My supporters are far tougher if they want to be, but fortunately they are not hostile.”

The event was marred by protestors who confronted Trump supporters as they exited the rally. Some supporters were pelted with eggs and attacked as they left the venue, where Trump had just concluded speaking. Hillary Clinton’s campaign even spoke out against the violence.

“Violence against supporters of any candidate has no place in this election,” campaign chairman John Podesta said in a statement.
