Counselor to the president Kellyanne Conway tore into people who questioned the legitimacy of President Trump’s presidency on Sunday, arguing special counsel Robert Mueller’s report shows they were wrong.
“For two years people denied the electability of Donald Trump and then for two years people denied the election of Donald Trump,” Conway said on ABC’s “This Week.” “ … I think there’s some people who are way too invested in the outcome here and should admit that, they should say they are partisan.”
Conway said the report proves Trump did not collude with Russia and despite Mueller finding Russia meddled in the 2016 presidential election, he did not find that it was the reason that Trump won. She said people need to focus on how the report exonerates Trump from conspiracy.
“The president says that because he’s known from the beginning that there was no collusion,” she said. “There’s no criminal conspiracy between the Trump campaign and the Kremlin to try to disrupt and spread disinformation about our elections.”
“That really was the central premise here,” she added.
Mueller’s report was released in redacted form on Thursday, showing his team did not find that Trump’s campaign conspired with Russia during the 2016 presidential election. Mueller did not make a determination on whether the president obstructed justice. Although Attorney General William Barr and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein cleared Trump of obstruction, Democrats in Congress are demanding the full report and some are pushing for impeachment.
