The FBI raid on the New York apartment and officer of President Donald Trump’s former personal lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, occurred at dawn Wednesday. Camera crews were apparently tipped off. Agents left with cellphones, laptops, and computers belonging to Giuliani, his assistant, and former wife. Armed with another warrant, agents confiscated a cellphone from the home of former federal prosecutor and Trump associate Victoria Toensing. The former mayor’s son later lambasted what he called a politicized investigation.
“Anybody, any American, whether you were red or blue, should be extremely disturbed by what happened here today, by the continued politicization of the Justice Department,” said Andrew Giuliani.
The raid is believed to be part of an investigation by the DOJ’s Southern District of New York into Giuliani’s alleged failure to register as a foreign agent in his dealings with Ukrainian and Russian officials who allege that President Joe Biden was the point man in netting his drug-addicted son, Hunter, an $80,000-per-month seat on the board of Burisma, a Ukrainian energy company.
Said Rudy Giuliani on Feb 9, 2020: “Ukraine point man. The kid makes $8 million. And now, they’re looking at where the money went to Joe, the whole deal there was between the owner of the company, and Joe, and it was to protect the company.”
Former Mueller investigation lead prosecutor Andrew Weissmann says the raid is a routine way to obtain evidence when prosecutors believe evidence may be destroyed or an investigation’s target may assert his Fifth Amendment rights.
Hunter Biden has said that he is “100% certain” that the DOJ investigation into his business dealings will clear him. Giuliani’s fate may be less certain as there is a new sheriff in town, the president of the United States, who may not take kindly to the former mayor’s accusations of bribery and corruption.
