Chick-fil-A manager saves man’s life after he collapses in parking lot

A 22-year-old Chick-fil-A manager is being described as a hero after his quick actions saved a man’s life after the customer collapsed in the fast food restaurant’s parking lot.

Tauya Nenguke, who manages a Chick-fil-A in Chula Vista, California, was working at the drive-thru at about 8:30 p.m. last Wednesday when he noticed someone unconscious next to a car in their parking lot. Nenguke, who wants to attend nursing school, ran over to the to the man and his group of friends and began to perform CPR.

A security camera caught Nenguke running over to the man, who went into cardiac arrest.

“[The man] wasn’t breathing or anything, his eyes were rolled back behind his head, I know this guy was out. I didn’t know how long I just started chest compression immediately,” he told KGTV.

Nenguke taught the man’s friends how to perform chest compressions so they could take turns until paramedics arrived. The paramedics credit Nenguke for saving the man’s life. “That was the place where God placed me at that moment,” he said.

“There wasn’t any hesitation on my part. I knew that was the place where God placed me at that time,” he said. “This was honestly a really big calling to be in healthcare because it was like instinct took over.”

Nenguke’s act of kindness is not the first time a Chick-fil-A employee has recently made news for going above and beyond for his customers. Daryl Howard, who manages a Chick-fil-A in Maryland, helped a 96-year-old man change his flat tire after the World War II veteran barely made it into the parking lot in July.

Chick-fil-A is known for the conservative ethos of its owners. In 2015, the chain’s president Dan Cathy, son of Chick-fil-A founder S. Truett Cathy, responded in an interview when asked about the company’s support of the “traditional family”: “Well, guilty as charged….We are very much supportive of the family — the biblical definition of the family unit….We know that it might not be popular with everyone, but thank the Lord, we live in a country where we can share our values and operate on biblical principles.”
