LSU kicks out students not complying with vaccine mandate

Louisiana State University has booted at least 78 students who did not comply with the school’s vaccine mandate, according to a university spokesman.

The noncompliant students were sent an email Tuesday stating that they were “resigned” and that LSU would reimburse 50% of their school fees, FOX23 reported.

“As a student, you were sent numerous notifications regarding the Entry Test Requirement and reminders to comply. Should you want to re-enroll at the university, you must complete the Entry Test Verification Survey. You will then need to email the Office of Academic Affairs at [email protected] stating your desire to be reinstated and added back to your courses,” the email to students read.

Ernie Ballard, director of LSU’s media relations, confirmed that the university had begun the process of unenrolling students.

“The goal from the start has been to get everyone in compliance, but while the number has shrunk, those 78 have been contacted that they are being unenrolled from the university,” he said. “These students did not comply with the COVID entry procedures.”

Last month, William Tate, the university’s president, said that all students attending LSU would be required to present verification that they had received their first vaccination by Sept. 10 and then be completely vaccinated by Oct. 15.

Tate met with President Joe Biden and business leaders Wednesday to discuss LSU’s COVID-19 rules.

“Our strategies have worked, with more than 81% of our student body currently vaccinated, a monthly testing protocol that monitors the presence of the virus on our campus, wastewater testing that allows us to intervene before an outbreak occurs, and a vaccine/testing mandate at Tiger Stadium to keep our fans safe, too,” he said in a statement. “We are grateful for the privilege of celebrating how far we have come and sharing the game plan with others who might be able to benefit from the knowledge.”

In a video posted to Twitter, Tate lauded the school’s efforts to mitigate the virus.

Over 80% of students and 70% of faculty have been fully vaccinated, he said.

“This is no less than incredible, particularly in a state where less than half of the people are vaccinated,” he said.
