Hope Hicks, the White House communications director, will be interviewed by special counsel Robert Mueller in mid-November, a report Tuesday said.
Hicks will meet with Mueller, who is conducting an investigation to determine whether the Trump campaign colluded with the Kremlin during the 2016 election, after Trump’s trip to Asia, Politico reported. Hicks was one of a handful of people Mueller reportedly wanted to interview back in September, and afterward, Hicks hired a personal attorney and Justice Department veteran Robert Trout.
Mueller’s team is planning to interview several other current White House officials this week, an administration official told Politico.
Former White House officials have already been interviewed by Mueller’s team this fall, including former chief of staff Reince Priebus and former press secretary Sean Spicer. Keith Kellogg, who served as interim national security adviser following the ouster of Mike Flynn, also spoke to the Mueller team.
In September it was reported that Mueller was interested in interviewing White House aides to see what they knew about the investigation into Flynn, who was fired in February after he misled the administration about his communications with Russians.
Mueller’s inquiry appears to be picking up steam
Paul Manafort, Trump’s former campaign chairman, was indicted by a federal grand jury on Monday on 12 charges, along with his associate Rick Gates. That same day, it was revealed George Papadopoulos, a foreign policy adviser to Trump’s campaign, pleaded guilty to misleading FBI agents concerning his contacts with Russians during a January interview.
The White House anticipates Mueller’s investigation will conclude by Thanksgiving.
