Retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn claims he has nothing to hide from lawmakers investigating the Jan. 6 Capitol riot.
The onetime Trump national security adviser told Fox News host Tucker Carlson on Friday he will “respond” to demands made by the House select committee, which this week subpoenaed him for documents and testimony, but he wouldn’t get into the “legalities” of his situation.
“I’m one of these guys, in my case, we’re going to respond to the requests, and, you know, I don’t have anything to hide. There is nothing there,” Flynn said.
The interview aired hours after Steve Bannon, another former Trump White House official and ally, was indicted by a federal grand jury for defying a subpoena from the House committee investigating the Jan. 6 Capitol riot. Flynn was one of several people subpoenaed on Monday associated with a so-called “war room” that drove efforts to halt the counting of electoral votes in the run-up to the violence of Jan. 6.

A statement from the panel said Flynn “reportedly attended a December 18th, 2020 meeting in the Oval Office during which participants discussed seizing voting machines, declaring a national emergency, invoking certain national security emergency powers, and continuing to spread the false message that the November 2020 election had been tainted by widespread fraud. The day before, Flynn gave an interview on Newsmax TV during which he talked about seizing voting machines, foreign influence in the election, and the purported precedent for deploying military troops and declaring martial law to ‘rerun’ the election.”

Flynn told Carlson he believes rights given to all U.S. citizens are being trampled.
“I think that what we’re facing is a clear assault on our basic rights and, principally, our freedom to speak freely in this country and to peacefully protest for things that we believe are false or fraudulent,” he said.
