Chelsea Manning rides in first NYC Pride march since being freed

Chelsea Manning, the former U.S. Army soldier behind the 2010 leak of classified information, participated in her first LGBT pride parade Sunday since being released from prison earlier this year.

Manning represented the American Civil Liberties Union at the New York City Pride March and was spotted riding in a red convertible next to Gavin Grimm, a transgender teenager whose lawsuit over a school bathroom was remanded by the Supreme Court.

“honored to represent the @ACLU at this years @NYCPrideMarch lost my voice from screaming so much thank you http://bit.ly/2tazCdS,” Manning tweeted.

Manning, 29, announced in 2013 that she identified as transgender.

Manning was convicted by court-martial in 2013 for violating the Espionage Act after leaking the largest-ever number of classified documents to WikiLeaks. Prior to leaving office, former President Barack Obama commuted Manning’s sentence and she was freed in May.
