Report: Trump rejected Canadian prime minister’s invite to New York City play

President Trump rejected an invitation from Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and decided to rally in Nashville, Tenn., instead, according to a report Saturday.

A rift has reportedly developed within the White House: one side, geared towards nationalism, led by White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus and chief strategist Stephen Bannon; the other, with strong ties to New York, led by former Goldman Sachs executives and Trump advisers Gary Cohn and Dina Powell.

Citing numerous unnamed White House officials and individuals familiar with knowledge with events inside the administrations, the Washington Post reported that Cohn and Powell urged him to attend the play, “Come From Away,” with Trudeau and daughter Ivanka Trump. The play focuses on the acts of a Canadian community that offers hospitality to foreign travelers that were stranded in the aftermath of the Sept. 11 attacks.

Ivanka Trump and about 120 ambassadors from around the world reportedly attended the play. But not Trump.

On the prospect of going to the play, Trump reportedly said, “absolutely not.”

Instead, according to the Washington Post, Trump opted to listen to advise from Bannon and go to Nashville, where not only held a rally but also visited the gravesite and childhood home of former President Andrew Jackson.
