Eric Trump said his father wants peace, but his first concern is keeping the country and its allies safe.
“You pray for peace. At the same time, my father has tremendous backbone and the safety of this country comes first, and the safety of our allies comes first,” the president’s son said on Fox News on Monday.
President Trump has made headlines in recent weeks with a missile strike on a Syrian air base, the dropping of the country’s second-biggest conventional bomb on ISIS-K tunnels in Afghanistan and a more aggressive posture toward North Korea.
While many in Washington have cheered the moves, Trump has been criticized for moving away from his “America First” policies from the campaign.
Eric Trump, one of half the duo of sons Trump left to run the Trump Organization, said that it’s not really a departure from his core strategy.
“You have to have massive backbone when it comes to awful, awful dictators who don’t like us, don’t like our way of life,” he said. “He will protect America, make no mistake about it, he will protect our country.”
