More than 90 celebrities who rallied against Kavanaugh quiet amid Biden sexual assault accusations: Analysis

Nearly 100 celebrities who were ardent #MeToo supporters and spoke out against Justice Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination to the Supreme Court haven’t been as vocal on Tara Reade’s accusations against Joe Biden.

A Monday analysis from NewsBusters found 95 celebrities have stayed quiet about accusations that the presumptive Democratic nominee sexually assaulted Reade in 1993 while she worked as a Senate aide in his office.

“Big names like Lady Gaga, Ellen DeGeneres, Jamie Lee Curtis, and nearly 100 more celebrities have had nothing to say against the man running to prevent President Donald Trump’s 2020 re-election nor expressed any solidarity with the woman who claimed Biden assaulted her in 1993. Not even several of the famous ladies belonging to female assault victims solidarity organization Time’s Up — like Jessica Chastain, Brie Larson, Natalie Portman and Julianne Moore — have offered a word of support to the alleged victim,” according to the publication.

The story addressed actress Alyssa Milano, who has been an outspoken supporter of Biden’s bid for the White House and a proponent of the #MeToo movement. Milano said when news broke of the Reade allegations that she was going to stay “quiet about it,” despite being vocal during Kavanaugh’s confirmation hearing when Christine Blasey Ford testified that he sexually assaulted her when the two were in high school.

Milano later addressed Reade’s accusations on April 28, saying: “I want Tara, like every other survivor, to have the space to be heard and seen without being used as fodder. I hear and see you, Tara.”

NewsBusters added that “Rose McGowan, an actress, alleged Weinstein abuse victim and one of the few consistent #MeToo activists had the stones to call out this hypocrisy. She blasted Alyssa Milano and other two-faced lefties on April 29, saying, ‘You are a fraud. This is about holding the media accountable. You go after Trump & Kavanaugh saying Believe Victims, you are a lie.’”

The analysis also found celebrities who were vocal Time’s Up proponents have remained quiet amid the Biden accusations.

“Julianne Moore, Reese Witherspoon, Brie Larson, Kerry Washington, Jessica Chastain, America Ferrera, Natalie Portman, all members of Time’s Up, have kept quiet about Tara Reade’s specific allegations since they broke. Not a hot look for the the [sic] group that revolutionized #MeToo politics. Reade herself called out the group on April 29 for having not paid attention to her,” it read.

Biden has denied the accusations, and said last week: “Well, look, nothing ever happened with Tara Reade. Believing women means taking a woman’s claim seriously when she steps forward and then vetting it, looking into it. … Women have a right to be heard, and the press should rigorously investigate claims like these. I’ll always uphold that principle. But, in the end, in every case, the truth is what matters. And in this case, the truth is these claims are flat-out false.”
