‘Obstruction of justice by tweet is absurd,’ Trump lawyer Jay Sekulow says

Jay Sekulow, a member of President Trump’s legal team, called the possibility of special counsel Robert Mueller poring over Trump’s tweets for obstruction of justice simply “absurd.”

“Obstruction of justice by tweet is absurd,” Sekulow said Sunday on ABC’s “This Week.”

“The president has a First Amendment right to put his opinions out there, but this theory that’s being bandied around that you can have an obstruction case by tweet … at the end of the day this is all about the Constitution,” he added.

Sekulow was referring to a New York Times report last week that said Mueller is examining Trump’s tweets to determine whether the president attempted to obstruct the federal investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election. Particularly, the report said the Mueller team is looking at Trump’s tweets about Attorney General Jeff Sessions and former FBI Director James Comey.

“Someone can make an allegation of obstruction, those are Article II powers and I think it’s a very compelling case,” Sekulow continued.
