Democratic gubernatorial hopeful and actress Cynthia Nixon announced that her son was transgender on the same day as the national Trans Day of Action.
Nixon, who is challenging Democrat Andrew Cuomo in a primary, said in an Instagram post Saturday that she was proud of her son “Samuel Joseph Mozes (called Seph) who graduated college this month.”
Nixon said that she salutes him, who graduated from University of Chicago, and “everyone else marking today’s #TransDayofAction.”
Samuel was born Stephanie in 1996 to Nixon and former partner Danny Mozes, according to the New York Post.
Trans Day of Action is an annual rally held in New York City that seeks to bring attention to violence and discrimination against transgender people.
