Fashion tycoon Peter Nygard’s company office was searched by the FBI and the NYPD after a lawsuit was filed against him alleging sex trafficking occurred at his Caribbean compound.
The raid happened Tuesday morning at the Times Square headquarters of Nygard’s fashion company. Nygard, 78, has been accused by women of sexual assault while they were at his Bahamas estate, Lyford Cay, as teenagers.
Nygard’s spokesman Ken Frydman told the Washington Examiner in a statement that investigators had executed search warrants at his offices in both New York and California. He said Nygard was “not surprised” by the searches.
“Nygard welcomes the federal investigation and expects his name to be cleared. He has not been charged, is not in custody, and is cooperating with the investigation,” Frydman said.

This month, 10 women filed a lawsuit alleging sex trafficking at Nygard’s 150,000-square-foot Bahamian estate, which has been featured on the TV show Lifestyles of the Rich and the Famous. The lawsuit claims that Nygard used his clout to lure them to his compound and force them to perform sex acts and to recruit other alleged victims.
Greg Gutzler and Lisa Haba, attorneys for the accusers, told the Washington Examiner in a statement that the FBI search was expected.
“Given Mr. Nygard’s pattern of alleged horrific sexual abuse spanning decades and across the world, it is not surprising that he now finds himself under the scrutiny of the FBI,” the attorneys said. “Our focus remains squarely on pursuing justice for the countless victims who have been so viciously harmed by Mr. Nygard and his enablers.”
Nygard is the founder of Canadian clothing company Nygard International, which he started in 1967.
