CBS taps Margaret Brennan to replace John Dickerson on ‘Face the Nation’

CBS News named Margaret Brennan as John Dickerson’s permanent replacement as anchor of Sunday morning news show “Face the Nation,” according to a press release issued Thursday.

“Margaret’s ability to ask newsmakers tough but fair questions in a deft and respectful manner, her sharp news instincts, and her tremendous ability to make complicated subjects understandable make her the perfect person to lead us into the next chapter of the broadcast,” said Mary Hager, the show’s executive producer. “The entire Face the Nation team is thrilled she’s taking over the anchor spot.”

Brennan, a six-year CBS employee, will officially start this Sunday, and she will continue to work as senior foreign affairs correspondent.

Dickerson left the program in January to move to New York City after being tapped to replace Charlie Rose on CBS “This Morning.”

CBS News chief congressional correspondent Nancy Cordes and CBS News chief White House correspondent Major Garrett had both been considered for the position.
