Mark Wahlberg and Chris Pratt join group of celebrities posting Memorial Day tributes

Several prominent Hollywood celebrities took to social media on Monday to commemorate Memorial Day and honor fallen American soldiers.

“Respect. Honor. Remember,” actor Mark Wahlberg posted, along with a photo of a soldier placing American flags at the gravesites of fallen comrades.

“Thank you to all the servicemen and women who have gone above and beyond to protect our country,” actress Reese Witherspoon tweeted. “Today and everyday, I honor you. #memorialday.”

Actor Rob Lowe wrote that Memorial Day is “not about eating hot dogs” but rather about “honoring those who paid the ultimate price.”

Actor Matthew McConaughey, who is reportedly mulling a run for governor of Texas, posted, “Honor honor. Remember. #memorialday” on his Instagram page.

Actor Andy Garcia honored “those who gave everything for everyone” on his Instagram page, while actress Glenn Close also posted on Instagram with a lengthy tribute to her uncle Johnny who was killed in the HMT Rohna disaster in 1943.

“America’s exceptional armed forces have altered the course of the world for the better,” actor Chris Pratt wrote on Instagram. “Take a quiet moment to really consider the sacrifice.”

Actor Gary Sinise, a vocal supporter of veteran-related causes for decades, wrote on Twitter, “Freedom must be defended & throughout our history over 1M Americans have paid the ultimate price to preserve it. I pray this Memorial Day these families will have a little peace & comfort, knowing their loved one is remembered. Their sacrifices will never be forgotten.”
