Alexian Brothers, Adventist Midwest to affiliate

CHICAGO (AP) — Two suburban Chicago health care systems have plans to affiliate their nine hospitals to save on overhead.

Alexian Brothers Health System and Adventist Midwest Health announced Tuesday they’ve signed a letter of intent to form a joint operating company.

The organizations said in a statement the arrangement would allow them to “preserve their respective religious identities and mission priorities” and to maintain “separate ownership of their assets.”

Alexian is a Catholic health system with five hospitals in the northwest suburbs and is part of Ascension Health. Adventist Midwest has four hospitals in the west and southwest suburbs and was founded by two Seventh-day Adventist physicians. Adventist Midwest is part of the national Adventist Health System.

The agreement is subject to approval from the Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board.
