Paul Ryan: ‘Responsible nations’ cannot tolerate Syria chemical attack

House Speaker Paul Ryan on Sunday condemned a suspected chemical attack in Syria that reportedly left dozens dead.

“The chemical attack in Syria is a horror that cannot be tolerated by responsible nations,” the Wisconsin Republican tweeted. “The U.S. must continue to lead an international effort to hold the Assad regime and Russia accountable for their actions.”

According to Syrian opposition activists, a poison gas attack Saturday in Douma, which is held by rebels and near the capital of Damascus, killed at least 40 people. The Syrian government, backed by Russia, denied it was behind any chemical weapons attack.

Trump called the attack “mindless,” and said there will be a “big price to pay.” He also said Russia and Iran are “responsible” for backing Bashar Assad’s regime.
