Washington Post Asks: Can You Oppose Palestinians and Still Be ‘Modern and Hip’?

Over the weekend, Lally Weymouth, a senior associate editor at The Washington Post, interviewed Naftali Bennett, Israel’s new education minister and a notable tech entrepreneur. Bennett wants to annex the part if the West Bank known as Area C and, in the words of the Post, “offer full Israeli citizenship to those Palestinians who live in Area C. They’d be able to vote for the Knesset.” Anyway, later in the interview, Weymouth asked this follow-up question of Bennett:

You seem modern and hip — so unlike a person who would take this position on the Palestinians. Do you really think you can just annex this land and just take Area C?

I don’t have any considered opinion on whether annexing Area C is a good idea. But this is almost beyond parody: The media litmus test for what policies are good for resolving the conflict between Israel and the Palestinians is apparently whether the people advocating them are considered “modern and hip” by Washington Post editors.
