To Lam, a high-ranking member of Vietnam’s Communist Party, was seen dining on gold-plated steak with celebrity chef Nusret Gokce, also known as Salt Bae, following a trip to Karl Marx’s grave.

Gokce deleted a TikTok video of himself hand-feeding the gold-plated steak to Lam on Nov. 2, according to a report. Lam, who serves as Vietnam’s minister of Public Security, is seen giving a thumbs-up after eating the steak at Salt Bae’s restaurant, Nusr-Et.

Vietnam faces worsening food shortages and growing poverty levels, with the COVID-19 pandemic only exacerbating the country’s hardships.

The video was reposted to Twitter.

Before enjoying the luxury steak, Lam and a delegation of Vietnamese officials set out on a pilgrimage to the grave of the father of communism, Karl Marx, in London, Vietnam’s state media reported.

“The visit of the MPS delegation to Karl Marx’s tomb demonstrated the Vietnamese good tradition ‘When drinking water, remember its source’ as well as paid respect to those based on whose theories the Vietnamese people overthrew systems of oppression ruled by colonialists and imperialists in the past, and are currently building a prosperous and thriving Vietnam with the same status as other countries in the world,” the communist publication wrote of Lam’s visit to the United Kingdom.
