‘Bulls***’: Lauren Boebert unloads on McCarthy during his plea to become speaker

Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) called a speech by Republican leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) ahead of the vote for next House speaker “bulls***” on Tuesday.

The word slipped out after McCarthy attempted to unite the party during a meeting of the House GOP conference, with Boebert saying “this is bulls***.” The Colorado representative reportedly yelled the word, a source told the Washington Examiner.

However, a Boebert official said it was not yelled or spoken into a microphone, according to Fox News.

Rep. Bob Good (R-VA), who has vowed not to vote for McCarthy for speaker, said the whole meeting was tense and hostile.

“The meeting was very hostile, and I don’t think it did anything to persuade those who are inclined to vote against Kevin McCarthy,” Good told Fox News.

Boebert however was not the only person who swore during the tense meeting. McCarthy allegedly said “goddamn it” during his speech in front of his Republican colleagues, according to a CNN reporter. Boebert confirmed that there was swearing during the meeting, but did not directly specify who cursed.

“So now here we are being sworn at instead of being sworn in. And we could have had this solved months ago,” Boebert said in a clip she tweeted. “I have been working every day to unify the Republican Party for the American people. And yesterday, we had a deal, that was not a selfish deal in any way, for Kevin McCarthy to get him the gavel on the first ballot, and he eagerly dismissed us.”

McCarthy failed to secure the gavel during the first vote on Tuesday, after 19 Republicans voted for another candidate, but voting will continue until a representative is elected. To become the next Speaker, McCarthy needs a majority of voting members — in this case, 218 lawmakers — to vote for him.
