The U.K. government may need to respond to a petition that seeks to ban Steve Bannon from entering Britain after it reaches its goal of 10,000 signatories.
The petition, which is receiving more signatures by the second, claims that the former strategist for President Trump “should not be allowed to enter the U.K. to spread messages of hate.”
Since leaving the White House last year, Bannon has campaigned for and supported multiple European conservative political movements such as France’s National Front, Hungary’s Fidesz, Alternative for Germany, and the U.K. Independence Party, according to Bloomberg.
He has aggressively advocated for making cuts in mass forms of immigration, particularly in Europe.
If the petition reaches 10,000 signatures in six months, the U.K. government is required to issue a response; if it reaches 100,000, the petition must be considered for debate by Parliament. The Bannon petition reaches the six-month point on Jan. 27 next year.
“People need to start getting interested in politics because at the moment the bad guys are winning,” 36-year-old petition sponsor Bruce Johnston said, comparing Bannon to radical extremists who have been banned from the U.K.
The petition had more than 6,300 signatures as of noon Monday Washington time.
