The Republican National Committee has entered the final leg of the general election with a significant cash advantage over its Democratic counterpart, according to both parties’ latest fundraising reports.
Despite outpacing the RNC in its August fundraising haul, the Democratic party began September with nearly $30 million less cash on hand than the GOP.
The Democratic National Committee announced Wednesday that it raised $28.9 million last month, exactly $5.5 million more than Republicans, but the party entered this month with only $11.5 million in the bank. Meanwhile, RNC raised $23.4 million in August and began this month with $40.6 million cash on hand.
“Our robust fundraising pace this cycle has allowed us to field the best-prepared and best-staffed ground game in RNC history,” Reince Priebus, chairman of the Republican Party, said in a statement earlier this week.
The RNC has raised $222.9 million so far this cycle, while Democrats have raised around $168 million, according to OpenSecrets.org, a website that keeps track of donations to political campaigns and parties.
