Food chain slammed for touting diversity hirings: ‘So proud they’re reducing employees of a specific race’

A food chain based outside of Washington, D.C., touted that it increased its diversity hiring practices and lowered the percentage of white people it employs.

“Diversity matters – in the workforce and beyond. We’ve made strides to make CAVA a diverse, inclusive workplace and remain committed to expanding on the following,” the Mediterranean food chain CAVA said in a graph that was shared on its Twitter page Friday.

The graph showed that employment of white people at the company’s headquarters sits at 21%, down from 37% in 2019, while Hispanic employment sits at 45%, unchanged from 2019, and black employees make up 14% of the team, up from 4% in 2019, among other racial demographics.

CAVA’s data also included that 67% of its overall team is made up of white employees, down from 69% in 2019, black employees account for 9% of the team, up from 5% in 2019, and Hispanic employees make up 8% of the team, which remained the same as 2019 data.

“Your continued support has helped us make strides to better our organization and the communities we serve. In such a challenging year, we couldn’t have achieved any of it without you. We look forward to continuing this work and welcoming you to our table in 2021,” the company’s tweet added.

The data was slammed by commenters on social media who said, “Wokeness is a mental disease,” and, “Bad idea to base hiring decisions on anything other than qualifications and skill.”

National security consultant David Reaboi also voiced his concern with the announcement.

“DC food joint CAVA is so proud they’re reducing employees of a specific race from their workforce. So much progress,” he tweeted.

“When no whites work at CAVA, I guess there will be a great deal of social justice,” he added in another tweet.

CAVA did not immediately respond to the Washington Examiner’s request for comment.
