The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee confirmed Friday its computers have been hacked.
“The DCCC can confirm that we have been the target of a cybersecurity incident,” spokeswoman Meredith Kelly said. “Upon discovering the issue, we immediately took action and engaged with CrowdStrike, a leading forensic investigator, to assist us in addressing this incident.
“The investigation is ongoing,” she added. “Based on the information we have to date, we’ve been advised by investigators that this is similar to other recent incidents, including the DNC breach.”
Reuters first reported Thursday night that the FBI had opened an investigation into a cyberhack at the DCCC, which raises money and assists the party’s House candidates.
Details were initially unclear as to who hacked the computers or what information the hackers accessed.
The hacking comes roughly a week after WikiLeaks released 22,000 emails that were hacked from the Democratic National Committee. The emails showed favoritism of Hillary Clinton over Bernie Sanders during the Democratic presidential primary season. DNC Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz, D-Fla., stepped down as a result of the hack.
