The Kinsey Sicks in “Oy Vey in a Manger” at Theater J, Saturday to Monday If you’re looking for something a little different, albeit hilarious, this weekend, look no further than Theater J. The Kinsey Sicks, the popular “dragapella beauty shop quartet,” presents its annual take on the season with “Oy Vey in a Manger.”
“It’s a holiday show, but not for the kids, unless you come from a permissive family,” joked Kinsey Sicks founding member Ben Schatz, aka Rachel. “It’s our antidote to holiday cheer.”
The Kinsey Sicks, founded in 1993, is a music and comedy show performed in drag. Music, skits and parodies are inspired by popular culture, politics and everyday life.
While at times silly and having fun with the drag aspect of the performance, Schatz also likes to stress that the group takes pride in its music.
“Our singing is as beautiful as our makeup is hideous,” Schatz said.
If you can’t make a performance of “Oy Vey in a Manger,” keep an eye out for the group’s next work, “Electile Dysfunction,” in which the Kinsey Sicks run for president and skewer the political process.
“Even in a recession, we’re grateful to live in a country with bad taste and disposable income,” Schatz said.
