Former Rep. John Dingell, D-Mich., is in hospital recovering from a heart attack, according to his family.
“It appears @JohnDingell had a heart attack early this morning,” his wife, Rep. Debbie Dingell, wrote on Twitter Monday. “He’s alert and in good spirits, cracking jokes like always.”
Debbie Dingell, who won an election in 2014 to represent her husband’s district upon his retirement, thanked the medical staff Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit for their care of him.
Our sincere thanks to all the medical professionals and nurses at our sides.

When John Dingell retired in 2015, he held the record as the longest-serving member of Congress, having represented Michigan for almost 60 years, the House Office of the Historian reported. During his career on Capitol Hill, he chaired the House Energy and Commerce Committee on multiple occasions.
Dingell, 92, underwent surgery in 2015 to receive a pacemaker, according to the Detroit Free Press. While he’s retired, Dingell is a regular tweeter with nearly a quarter-million followers who routinely criticizes President Trump. Last week, he called Trump an “absolute embarrassment of a human.”
What an absolute embarrassment of a human. https://t.co/uN9IQofLBH
