Whoopi Goldberg ‘gone for a while’ from The View

One of the leading ladies of ABC’s The View is taking a break from the show.

Whoopi Goldberg, 66, is in Scotland as she films Amazon Prime’s upcoming series adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s Anansi Boys, which she joined last week, according to PEOPLE.

“If you’re wondering where Whoopi is, the girl’s got a movie she’s making, and she will be back when she finishes whatever she’s doing,” co-host Joy Behar said on Monday’s show. “So she’s gone for a while.”

Goldberg will play the role of Bird Woman, a key antagonist of Anansi Boys and the God of the Birds, in the six-episode series. Goldberg said she has been a fan of the 2005 fantasy novel “for a very long time” and did “everything I could to be part of it,” according to Variety.

Goldberg’s absence from The View comes two months after she was suspended from the show for two weeks in February over controversial comments saying that the Holocaust was “not about race” and instead about “man’s inhumanity to man.” Goldberg offered an apology, noting, “I should have said it is both.”
