Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey approved a measure Monday that will increase the penalties for people who block access to a political or government events, according to a report.
The measure elevates the severity of the crime from a Class 3 to a Class 1 misdemeanor.
The Republican governor said the state legislature chose to reform the law after seeing how protesters attempted to block people from attending a Donald Trump rally in March and again in May.
The measure is similar to another law signed through in Arizona on Monday, which bans college campuses from refusing to host certain speakers or events on campus because it may offend some people.
