Hundreds gathered in Waukesha for a candlelight vigil in the wake of the vehicular attack on Sunday’s Christmas parade.
The crowd congregated Monday evening in the Wisconsin city, which had a high of 30 degrees and a low of 19 degrees. Community members gave speeches in the aftermath of the attack that left five dead and dozens hurt.
“Last night was a tragedy no community should ever have to experience,” Mayor Shawn Reilly said. “Last night, our children were terrified when they should’ve been laughing. Last night, many of our friends were gravely injured when they should’ve been standing shoulder to shoulder with friends and neighbors.”

Waukesha Police Chief Daniel Thompson also spoke with community members.
“When tragedy struck this great city, the community responded,” he said. “Members of the community selflessly went to the aid of the victims. My heart and department prayers go out to the victims and their families.”
