Alexandria is the latest community around the region to eye cuts to its local bus service during a tight budget cycle.
The city is looking at cutting its contribution to the DASH budget by $537,211. The transit service says it may be able to find savings for just over half of that amount, but it is looking to cut more than $262,000 from bus service.
Under the proposal, the transit service would eliminate some midday service and weekend routes.
The city has scheduled a public hearing at 5:30 p.m. April 26, in the Sister Cities Conference Room in City Hall, 301 King St., Alexandria.
The proposed cuts comes as the bus service ridership is at a record high, according to the Alexandria Transit Company, and just weeks after the service celebrated its 25th anniversary.
Montgomery and Fairfax counties also are looking at cutting their local bus service. Metro is considering about $13.5 million in cuts to Metrobus service, which could include some bus routes that extend into Alexandria, as well.
