UPDATE: Bethesda home invasion appears linked to Wheaton case, police say

UPDATE, 3:58 p.m.: The Wednesday home invasion in Bethesda appears linked to a Tuesday armed robbery in Wheaton, police said. In the Wheaton case, a man armed with a handgun approached a woman who was in her garage on the 2900 block of McMahon Road, threatened her and demanded money. The woman handed over money, her car keys, debit card and pin number.

The suspect fled in the woman’s vehicle, which has has been recovered. He used her bank card at an Oxon Hill ATM, police said.

Police also disclosed Wednesday afternoon that a robber in the Bethesda case took the housekeeper’s bank card, which was was used at a CVS near L’Enfant Plaza.

Authorities initially believed there may have been two suspects in the Bethesda incident, but so far police have only confirmed one assailant, who appears linked to the Wheaton attack, said Officer Janelle Smith, a police spokeswoman. The suspect is described as a black man in his late 20s or early 30s, 5 feet 7 inches tall and with a slim build. The suspect was wearing a black jacket, a sweatshirt, dark-colored pants, brown-framed glasses, a black ski mask and gloves.

UPDATE, 3:28 p.m.: Innocenti says the housekeeper was sexually assaulted during the incident. She would not describe the nature of the assualt.

ORIGINAL POST: Montgomery County police are investigating an armed home invasion-robbery in Bethesda.

Police said a housekeeper answered the door at the home on the 9200 block of Bardon Road at about 6:45 a.m. Wednesday. Two men armed with handguns forced their way into the home and tied up the housekeeper, an adult woman and a teenage boy, said Officer Rebecca Innocenti, a police spokeswoman.

The men took items from the home then fled in the housekeeper’s gray Ford Expedition, Innocenti said. The car has the Maryland license plate 4AE7450 and has a McDaniel College sticker.

No serious injuries were reported, but the housekeeper was taken to a hospital for a check-up, Innocenti said.

No further description of the suspects was available.
