Three more participants in a bribery scam in which a D.C. Department of Motor Vehicles employee sold driver’s licenses to foreign nationals have been sentenced to probation, the District’s Inspector General reports.
Former DMV employee Patricia Gonzalez took thousands in bribes in exchange for issuing more than 200 phony IDs. Gregorio Turcios, Juan Molina, and Castulo Hernandez all admitted to bribing Gonzalez — either directly or through a third party — for fake driver’s licenses.
The Washington Examiner has previously reported that investigators are having difficulty finding all the foreign nationals who got the fake licenses through Gonzalez.
Gonzalez was sentenced to 18 months in prison two years ago. She admitted that her friends acted as recruiters for the scheme, going through Hispanic neighborhoods and finding mostly poor and working-class immigrants who were willing to pay cash to obtain a driver’s license.
