MGM Grand may be the frontrunner to operate a casino at National Harbor in Prince George’s County.
House Speaker Michael Busch, D-Anne Arundel, met with officials from the firm that manages the MGM Grand hotel and casino in Las Vegas Wednesday afternoon, CapitalGazette.com first reported.
An official from Busch’s office confirmed the meeting.
Busch said he is not aware of any agreement between MGM and the Peterson Cos., developer of National Harbor. Lawmakers are considering an expansion of gambling that would add a sixth casino site in Prince George’s as well as authorizing table games at all Maryland casinos.
Developer Milt Peterson has touted a potential casino at National Harbor as a high-end destination facility, one that would dwarf the state’s other five casino sites. Selecting a Las Vegas casino operator would certainly aid those efforts.
Jon Peterson, senior vice president of the Peterson Cos., said the company does not have an agreement with a potential casino operator.
“We don’t yet have a deal or letter of intent, so there’s nothing more we can say,” Peterson said.
An announcement from the Peterson Cos. is expected Friday, officials said.
