WIND CAVE NATIONAL PARK, S.D. (AP) — Wind Cave National Park officials say a cool and blustery Memorial Day weekend caused the park to see a record number of visitors for that holiday period.

Rangers led 62 tours with 2,260 visitors through the cave.

Wind Cave Superintendent Vidal Davila says visitation at the park rises in bad weather. He says the park has plenty to offer in its 28,000 acres, but people can tour the cave regardless of the weather.

Davila says visitors wanting to see the cave should arrive early in the day. He says from June 9 through August 10, rangers will offer 28 tours a day from 9:20 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. He says the busiest days of the week are Tuesday and Wednesday and any day it rains.
