House Majority Whip Steve Scalise, R-La., is no longer in the intensive care unit at MedStar Washington Hospital Center as he continues to recover from being shot in the hip during practice for the Congressional Baseball Game last Wednesday.
According to a source familiar with the situation, Scalise has been moved out of the ICU and remains in fair condition. MedStar confirmed in a statement later Friday that Scalise was transferred out of the ICU on Thursday.
“Congressman Steve Scalise’s continued good progress allowed him to be transferredout of the Intensive Care Unit on Thursday. He remains in fair condition as he continues an extended period of healing and rehabilitation,” the hosital said in the statement.
House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis., said Thursday that he met with Scalise earlier that morning and said his “spirits are up” and that he inquired about issues moving along on Capitol Hill.
