Luther Strange ‘proud’ to have Trump join him at Alabama rally

Sen. Luther Strange thanked President Trump for announcing the president would come to Alabama to campaign with Strange next week in a statement Saturday evening.

“I am proud to have President Trump’s endorsement in this race and I am looking forward to his trip to Alabama,” Strange said in a statement.

“It is an honor to work hard beside him to deliver upon his promises to the American people, like achieving tax relief for hard working Americans and building the wall on our southern border.”

Trump announced the visit in a tweet Saturday evening, stating his intention to appear directly with the candidate he’s backed in the race to replace Attorney General Jeff Sessions in the Senate.

Trump is set to appear in Huntsville, Ala. with Strange.

Strange was appointed after Sessions became the nation’s top law enforcement official and is now running to serve the rest of Sessions’ term.

However, he’s locked in a tight race with former Alabama State Supreme Court Justice Roy Moore. Moore won the initial Republican primary, but Trump and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell back Strange.
