OANN won’t recognize Biden as president-elect until Congress certifies Electoral College

One America News Network has yet to refer to Joe Biden as president-elect, and it won’t do so until Congress certifies the Electoral College.

Robert Herring, One America News Network’s founder and CEO, announced the network’s election policy on social media on Wednesday, days after the Electoral College cast its votes for Biden.

“One America News will not recognize Biden as the President-elect as all of our investigations indicate there was fraud in voting,” he said. “There will be no decision until Jan. 6, 2021.”

OANN, a right-wing media network, has been one of the few news outlets that have refused to acknowledge Biden’s victory while promoting claims President Trump won the election. Trump, who has not yet conceded, has promoted some of the network’s election fraud coverage.

Herring’s Twitter feed is filled with claims that Trump will get a second term.

“After watching the people who worked on the election testify to what they saw happen, I would like to secure a front-row seat at President Trump’s inauguration,” he said on Dec. 4.

Three days earlier, he questioned Attorney General William Barr for saying the Department of Justice had found no proof to support allegations of widespread fraud on a scale large enough to overturn the election results.

OANN was not the only outlet, however, to engage in such coverage. Newsmax, another right-wing outlet, refused to acknowledge Biden as the president-elect, citing the Trump campaign’s legal challenges, which have been widely dismissed. The network, which was founded by Trump friend and CEO Christopher Ruddy, began referring to Biden as the “president-elect” as “a result of the Electoral College vote [for] Joe Biden.”

Congress will call a joint session on Jan. 6 to ascertain the Electoral College results after the new Congress takes its seats on Jan. 3. At that point, it will affirm that Biden won, and he will be inaugurated on Jan. 20.
