Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., is holding President Trump’s feet to the fire after the top Republican alleged his Democratic predecessor wiretapped his campaign last October.
While speaking with reporters on Monday, McCain bashed the White House for refusing to share more information regarding how Trump came to his conclusion.
McCain said the public has the “right to know on what basis the president of the United States said that his predecessor had broken the law by wiretapping Trump Tower.”
“The American people should demand it,” McCain added, according to a report. “The dimensions of this are huge.”
The 2008 Republican presidential nominee initially reacted to the news on Sunday when he said the tweets were “unprecedented”.
“I have never heard of a president of the United States accusing his predecessor or any other president of the United States of violating the law,” McCain said.
Trump has accused Obama of engaged in “McCarthyism”-like wiretapping of his campaign.
