Woman charged in hit-and-run on I-95
A 19-year-old woman was charged Saturday in a fatal hit-and-run incident in Fairfax County.
Woodbridge resident Carol Rood-Johnson was arrested in Alexandria and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after her vehicle struck and killed a man on the side of I-95 North, according to Virginia State Police Sgt. Jeremy Kaplan.
The victim, 62-year-old D.C. resident Clarence Alston, had pulled his vehicle over to the right shoulder of the interstate and was standing next to the vehicle with his hazard lights on when he was struck by a sport utility vehicle at approximately 12:02 a.m.
The driver fled the scene, then later reported herself to the Prince George’s County police. Police recovered her vehicle in Prince George’s.
Commonwealth’s attorneys are considering more charges for Rood-Johnson, according to Kaplan.
