Anthony Scaramucci wanted to hamper ‘horn tooting’ and ‘denigrating colleagues’ in White House communications shop

Anthony Scaramucci, the short-lived White House communications director, intended to eliminate boasting and internal criticism in the West Wing, according to a plan he had laid out before being fired this week.

In a memo published online Wednesday by blogger Mike Cernovich, Scaramucci’s plan proposed running the White House communications department like a TV news outlet like Fox News and included guidance for workplace behavior.

“Recognize good work in a consistent and formal way,” the memo said. “Establish a meritocracy where real contributions to Comms are recognized. Make it clear that horn tooting and denigrating colleagues is unacceptable.”

Scaramucci was ousted Monday by new White House chief of staff John Kelly. His forced resignation came after New Yorker magazine published an interview with him in which he used vulgar language and trashed Reince Priebus, former chief of staff to President Trump, and Steve Bannon, a top adviser in the White House.

Scaramucci confirmed the memo’s authenticity to Buzzfeed News.

The memo said the communications department “needs to be run like a news channel with producers, scripts, and narration” and referenced Roger Ailes, the former Fox CEO who died in May.
