Carl Bernstein calls out lawmakers for being hypocrites over leaks

Veteran journalist Carl Bernstein called out members of the House Intelligence Committee for being hypocrites over the leaking of classified information Monday.

During FBI Director James Comey’s testimony Monday, House Republicans — most notably Rep. Trey Gowdy, R-S.C. — called out people within the previous administration as possible leakers of classified information to the press. Bernstein said many of the people criticizing leakers were themselves leakers in the past.

“I can state w/confidence that many intel members now decrying ‘leaks’ of classified info have themselves ‘leaked’ classified info knowingly,” Bernstein tweeted.

Bernstein, who worked with Bob Woodward for The Washington Post to break the Watergate scandal that ended the presidency of Richard Nixon, is one of the foremost investigative journalists in the United States. In more recent years, Bernstein has transitioned more into a political pundit role.
